Her Royal Highness's Traditional Festive Musical Celebration Spotlights Charity Helpers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her yearly festive musical service at the historic Abbey, with guests including members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.

The sizable congregation will hear a selection of carols, music and readings from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

A Theme of Kindness and Compassion

The central message of the concert, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday, is kindness and showing love to others.

Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose child passed away from a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a terminally ill child.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often discreetly and without words, and without any expectation or recognition, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," Her Royal Highness stated in a letter ahead of the concert.

A Gradual Return

The royal has been undertaking her own measured re-emergence to the public eye subsequent to her illness and medical care, in November making her first public speech for two years, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Music and Opportunity

Guests arriving at the Abbey will enjoy performances from young musicians aided by the charitable trust Future Talent, established in part by the Duchess of Kent to widen access to musical tuition.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been supported by the organisation, with funding assisting with musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "incredible" to be playing at the evening's event.

"Pursuing music is often costly," the musician remarked. She is now studying at the prestigious music academy, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to hone their artistic talents.

Generations Gathering

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many important people," she said.

Within the audience will be representatives of different generations.

That will encompass Saphia Turner, aged nine, honouree of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for community pantries.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been adorned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett helping to make them.

The musical lineup includes recording artist Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "a dream come true."

This annual carol service will be televised and shown on a major network on Christmas Eve.
