The January transfer market is always a period of feverish speculation and potential major deals. Numerous prominent players are being connected to moves away from their current teams. We examine a selection of the key figures who could be changing clubs in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Although Ghana's inability to qualify for the AFCON, this has kept the forward in contention, it appears a significant move is imminent. The Bournemouth attacker has a deal featuring a substantial buy-out clause applicable for a two-week window at the start of the month. Latest reports point to the Premier League champions are now the frontrunners for his signature. Former suitors such as Tottenham and Chelsea are said to have turned their attention to alternative options, leaving clubs such as Manchester United or Liverpool to make a last-minute move.

Marc Guéhi

The English defender has continued to excel for Palace this season a summer transfer to Anfield falling through. As his contract due to run out in the close season, January is the club's last chance to secure a transfer fee for their captain. Numerous elite clubs, including City and several European giants like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, are believed to hold an interest. However, a winter departure remains unlikely, particularly given the coach's dependence on the player.

Brennan Johnson

The Wales winger has found first-team opportunities hard to come by at Spurs this campaign. Although finishing as the club's leading goalscorer last season, Johnson has started just a small number of league games. Reports suggest the London outfit is open to a transfer for the correct valuation, thought to be in the around forty million pounds. Bournemouth appear to be at the front of the queue, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also showing an interest.

Rúben Neves

This Portugal playmaker could be set for a return to the English top flight following a spell in the Saudi Pro League. Still just twenty-eight, while his contract expiring in the summer, he is a potential opportunity. Clubs such as Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked with the former Wolves man. Furthermore, there have been rumours from Spain that he would be prepared to take a reduced salary for a move to Real Madrid.

M. ter Stegen

The veteran Germany goalkeeper finds himself as the third option at Barça following the coach Flick. Having fallen out of favour and undergone surgery, a January exit seems increasingly likely. Aston Villa were initially linked as a potential suitor, but that option currently seems unlikely. Instead, clubs from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are thought to be showing curiosity in the keeper.

I. Toney

The prolific English centre-forward has kept finding the net frequently in the Middle East. Coming back to the Premier League might boost his dwindling hopes of being in the national World Cup. However, securing a deal poses significant challenges. His current club do not wish to part with him, and his reported enormous weekly wages render any move difficult. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United have all been mentioned as admirers.

The striker was instrumental as his Saudi club to a win in the Saudi Super Cup final.

C. Gallagher

This dynamic English midfielder attracted widespread attention in the summer but stayed at Atlético Madrid. With few starting appearances in La Liga this season, he may be eager to find more minutes ahead of the World Cup. United are heavily linked, and a move back to Selhurst Park, a club he excelled on loan, is also a possibility, though wage demands could be a problem.

H. Elliott

Although excelling and being named player of the tournament at the Under-21 European Championship last summer, the talented player has found it tough for game time on loan at Aston Villa. Unai Emery has stated the temporary transfer will not become permanent. Because of specific rules about playing for multiple teams in a campaign, a return to his parent club before next season appears to be the only available solution.

K. Yildiz

This highly-rated Turkish forward is in fine form for Juventus this season. As his current deal running down, a host of English clubs – including Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are keeping tabs on the developments. Juventus are eager to secure the 20-year-old to a new long-term agreement but face a battle to keep one of the continent's most promising prospects.

K. Smit

The highly-touted Netherlands teenage midfielder has earned comparisons to a Belgian superstar for his playing style. After starring at the U19 Euros, he has broken into the AZ side. This 19-year-old is heavily tipped to complete a major move this month. Newcastle reportedly are leading the chase, but are facing stiff rivalry from the Spanish champions for a deal priced at around £22 million.
