Viral video clips appeared to show Jones making an obscene gesture toward opposing supporters, but Jones insists he was actually signaling approval to Cowboys fans in attendance as his team clinched a 37-22 victory.
“It was regrettable. That was kind of an exchange with our fans seated near me,” Jones explained during a Tuesday interview. “There was a swarm of Dallas supporters—not New York fans, Cowboys fans. The entire stadium was filled with excitement for the Dallas team.”
He further clarified that the gesture was completely accidental, occurring amid the elation following the team’s last score. “I just put up the incorrect finger,” he remarked. “It was inadvertently done. I’m not kidding. Should you call it unplanned, you can. But it got resolved pretty quick.”

This incident isn’t the initial instance an league proprietor has been penalized for inappropriate behavior. Previous cases involve:
- Carolina Panthers proprietor Tepper was penalized $300K for throwing a drink at fans in January 2024.
- Then Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams was issued a $250,000 penalty in 2009 for a similar obscene gesture.
